How ‘Bout This Rain? #1LinerWeds

The other day, it was raining AGAIN and somebody at the store commented on it. I said something I grew up hearing, and the store person was like, “Uh… ha-ha! Yeah, I guess so.” From that, I assumed that the store person did not grow up hearing it.

So, in case that person was not alone in deprivation, here is what I said about the rain:

Lovely weather for ducks.

There was even a song about it, but I don’t know if the saying or the song came first. I suspect the saying did, but who knows?

Here’s the song, sung by fellow Kentuckian Rosemary Clooney, George’s. ..aunt, I believe.

This post is part of Linda G. Hill’s weekly blog hop, One-Liner Wednesday. If you have a one-liner or just like them, follow the link.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Someone loves another person’s bad weather. Why?

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

I’d forgotten about this song and that saying. So perfect considering our odd weather this week. ?

I grew up hearing and using that expression, but I haven’t heard it for a long time.

I haven’t heard it for a long time, either. I guess people got sick of hearing it and it fell out of fashion. Let’s bring it back!

I used to hear that ALL the time. It’s a beautifully hokey thing to say. We need more hokiness in the world. 🙂
