Lately, I’ve had this quote from John Steinbeck’s CANNERY ROW stuck in my brain. It’ll probably be there for a good, long while, for a certain value of “good”.
The mind darts like a chicken, trying to escape thinking even though thinking is the most rewarding function of man.
Actually, I think compassion is the most rewarding function of humans, although neither thinking nor caring is limited to homo sapiens.
