Chicken Brain — Not a Food Post #1LinerWeds

Lately, I’ve had this quote from John Steinbeck’s CANNERY ROW stuck in my brain. It’ll probably be there for a good, long while, for a certain value of “good”.

The mind darts like a chicken, trying to escape thinking even though thinking is the most rewarding function of man.

Actually, I think compassion is the most rewarding function of humans, although neither thinking nor caring is limited to homo sapiens.

This post is part of Linda G. Hill’s weekly blog hop, One-Liner Wednesday. If you have a one-liner or just like them, follow the link.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Write about someone avoiding thinking.

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.
