When I was young and worked in an office, one of my co-workers gave me an expression I’ve used ever since:
He’s crazier’n a tree full of hoot-owls.
I don’t know what makes hoot-owls particularly crazy, or why the craziness increases with numbers, but it feels right, so I use it. That’s how good expressions do.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Write about a tree full of hoot-owls.
