Can anybody come up with a joke to match that set-up?
The reason for that title is that Teagan Riordain Geneviene, author of my beloved Thistledown: Midsummer Bedlam, has two dictionaries out: Speak Chuckaboo, Slang of the Victorian and Steam Eras and Speak Flapper – Slang of the 1920s. I adore slang, so OF COURSE I’ve ordered both.
My nails this week are fall-y again, since I also adore autumn. My favorite season, bar none, although winter is now running it a very close second.
All products this week are Maniology. My accent nail has a base color of Latte, although it’s difficult to see. The other nails are Fireside, my favorite red. The brown leaves are also Latte. The plaid is made up of Zinnia, then Fireside, then Lace. The plaid layers came from plate M164, and the leaves came from plate M278. Remember, if you order supplies from Maniology, using my code MomGoth10 at checkout will give you a 10% discount on most items.
A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Queen Victoria and Betty Boop.

September 12, 2022 at 7:47amThose are two wonderful books!
Now for the joke: Queen Victoria and Betty Boop Walk Into A Bar. The bartender walks over and says: “Hi ladies, tell me your story and I’ll give you a drink on the house.” Victoria says, “I became Queen of England at the age of 18.” Betty says, “I was a heartthrob sex symbol at the age of 16.” The bartender shakes his head – “two Shirley Temples, coming up.”

Great job on the nails, too.

September 12, 2022 at 10:35amMarian! What a swell surprise! This is “bang up to the elephant”. I’m so glad you like my dictionaries. Thanks for reminding me of Thistledown Midsummer Bedlam. Now I know what kind of short story to write for the photos you sent.
And I love yours nails, especially the plaid one. Nothing says autumn to me like plaid.
Thanks again, my chuckaboo!

September 12, 2022 at 10:59amI agree about autumn and plaid. Charlie wore a lot of plaid flannel in the autumn and winter, so plaid makes me feel cozy and happy. 🙂
You’re going to write a Thistledown story for my photos??!!!?? I’m so excited!

September 12, 2022 at 12:32pmWhen I was in grammar school, I always had a new plaid dress for the new school year.
Okay… I’m going to backtrack that about a Thistledown story to a “maybe.” There’s also a dystopian story in my head for the stumps, but then again… I might be able to combine the two. 🙂

September 12, 2022 at 12:36pmOh yeah, the joke you requested. :/ I’m no good with that kind of joke but…
Queen Victoria and Betty Boop walk into a bar… The bartender says, “What can I get you two young ladies?”
Then he turns his full attention to the businessman he believes will tip better, because he’s a man, and the woman in a spandex dress, whose ID he really should have given a closer look.
As Victoria and Betty had long since left 40 behind, they exchanged an annoyed glance.
“Condescending much?” Betty asked the bartender.
“We are not amused,” added Victoria.
Okay… not so funny, but I did try. 😀

September 13, 2022 at 10:22amNails are poppin’ Marian 😀 They are beautiful! Not familiar with some of the books you mentioned. I’m going to check them out.

September 13, 2022 at 10:54amGlad you like the nails! I’m looking forward to the books. It sounds like I’ll be surprised that some of the expressions I grew up hearing date from the 1920s. Not surprising, though: I can remember going to parties with my mother when I was little and seeing elderly women demonstrate their Charleston skills.
