Update 4-18-2023

So I was walking in the woods looking for mushrooms — morel mushrooms — and I took a wrong step and I fell forward and I caught myself with my hands and I broke both wrists. Yes I found some mushrooms and yes Sara cooked them and I ate them and they were totally delicious.
My son-in-law works from home and he and my daughter live just up the hill so I texted him and he came down and called 911 and took me to the hospital and so I was saved.
At the emergency room they wrapped both of my arms up like this

and they made an appointment for me to see a bone doctor.
The bone doctor put my right arm in this awesome black cast

and wrapped the other one up like before. Yeah my left hand had a worse break and so that one had to be set.
I went into the hospital and they put me to sleep and they set my left arm and put it in a big ugly cast.

I have another appointment in a few days to have them both looked at and might get a smaller brace on my right hand and be able to maybe type a little one-handed?
Meanwhile, I downloaded this voice to text app and it’s working really well, so I decided to do this update. I probably won’t be posting every day but I might try again.
Hurrah for technology!

Thanks for the progress update – hope it doesn’t hurt too much.

Your voice to text was accurate – you didn’t say if it needed a lot of editing.

Don’t reply – just know we’re concerned about your well-being.

I’m with Alicia, don’t reply but thank you for the update. And I’m thrilled your voice-to-text app works so well. Once you’re all well again, I’d love to know the techie details. 😀 Oh and I’m glad the mushrooms were delicious after everything you went through!

I have so appreciated technology since I, too, fell face first and broke my humerus on my right arm. I feel your pain and your frustration, Marian. But it looks like you are progressing very well. I go in on Monday to see if I can stop using this sling. I have been using my arm more and more every day. And that’s a good thing. So you have only good things ahead of you now.

So glad you are on the mend! What a freaky accident! Today’s techie world can be wonderful. If I wasn’t taking care of my own sweet mother and all her health issues, I would come north to help you. Happy healing, my dear cousin!🌺❤️‍🩹🌺

Seems we all want to know the name of this app! Glad to hear you’re on the mend (also glad to hear you enjoyed those mushrooms – it’d be adding insult to injury if you hadn’t been able to!)

Thanks John. The first thing I’m going to do when I can use my wrists again and tie my shoes is to buy some good hiking boots

Oh gosh, I know how you must be feeling! I was in a full arm cast from shattering my wrist when I was 35…ice skating.
I hope you heal up quickly and are just like new after some PT! I also hope you’re not in the cast long.

Ouch! At least I didn’t shatter my arm I just broke one wrist and displaced the other one a little bit just enough to have to go under anesthesia and have it reset

Ohmigosh, Marian, I’m so sorry this happened to you. One broken wrist would have been bad enough, but two? It’s a good thing your daughter and SIL live close by so you have continued help if/when needed. I hope your wrists heal quickly, but take the time to rest and recover.

Hope you’re still recovering well–I’ve been following through Sara. My relationship with mushrooms is mostly good, many are delicious. What few missteps I’ve had tend toward more, ahem, psychological situations 😉

The app is called Write by Voice and it is pretty amazing. I do continue to improve my healing. 6 more sleeps until I see the doctor again and then I hope I get these casts off. Then it’s just a matter of building the strength backup in my arms.

That must have been one hell of a fall you took, dear Sister. How’s the healing process going? I can imagine you are going nuts, as the independent lady you are. Big gentle hugs. I won’t say “Try to take it easy’, since you have been doing nothing but since that unlucky day. Thinking of you and wishing you all the best. “Beterschap!”, as we say in Dutch, get well, or at least better, soon.
    Love, Marion

Thank you my dear sister. It was a hard fall I took. Our ground here is full of clay and rock so it does not feel good to fall on it. When my son-in-law came and found me he said he was amazed because every other part of the ground around me was full of poking up sticks and I had missed almost all of them. When I get back to regular posting I’ll post a picture of the eating utensils I McGyvered so I can feed myself.

Clever lady, to artfully avoid those nasty sticks! I would love to see a picture of your fabrication. You had me grinning about the ‘McGyvered’, and my mind is making up all sorts of possible utensils. Proud of you!
