Monday Recommends and Nail Art: Audiobooks and the Trees They Save

While my wrists were broken and I couldn’t hold a book or even a Kindle, I started listening to audiobooks. Our #2 Daughter recommended Chirp, an audiobook distributor with daily and long-term specials. I got, among others, JONATHAN STRANGE & MR. NORREL, SILAS MARNER, THREE MEN IN A BOAT, and A YEAR IN A FRENCH FARMHOUSE, all on steep discount, much lower than the prices now, which are still discounted. The French farmhouse one was so slow and (to me) dull that I played it about four times. It was great to drift in and out of sleep to, and it took me four tries before I heard all of it. It was great.

My nails this week are trees, with my accent nails as sunset over the water.

I finally did a glue/blue/blue gradient that I’m halfway satisfied with, and topped it with a Clockwork (dark copper) sun and a Gingersnap (light copper) sea. The other nails are Clockwork, Gingersnap, and Pink Planet (rose gold) stamped with dark green trees and birds.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Write about seas and trees.

I often wonder how the trees that live near the coasts survive: humidity is salt-free, but the winds blowing over the trees are not, or maybe the tides – or we’d grow all kinds of food on beaches worldwide. Rain has no salt, but water picked up by wind from the ocean might.

Anyway, those trees are potentially exposed to toxic doses of salt – and yet survive.

I admit I’m much too impatient for audio books, but of course, I haven’t broken both wrists yet so I won’t speak too soon. That would just be tempting fate!
Oddly enough, I wasn’t completely convinced that you were better until the penny dropped – she can’t be doing her nails if her hands don’t work! Doh. Lovely to see you back to normal. 🙂

When my therapist said I was getting back to normal, and I said, “Normal?” She reminded me of that joke where the guy says, “Doctor, will I be able to play piano?”

Cool nails and a great combo theme – I just wish there was a less expensive way to prepare an audiobook. As it is, I doubt I’d ever have enough sales to recover the cost. I like trees, but…

I know. Audiobooks are expensive to produce. Of course, you can try ACX and offer the job as royalty share.
