Monday Recommends and Nail Art: Christmas Tales and Tipper’s Tale

One of my favorite authors is Connie Willis, and one of my frequent re-reads of her books is MIRACLE AND OTHER CHRISTMAS STORIES. Willis has a view of Christmas and Christmas stories that is both jaundiced and enchanted. She has a firm grip on the True Meaning of the Christmas Spirit, and no sympathy for people who betray it, whether they claim to honor/celebrate it or not. The small-minded and hard-hearted need not apply. These stories …. These stories …. Some of them have happy endings, some have happy-ish endings, and some have endings that can only be viewed as “happy” if one is of a particularly vindictive bent. I like those. A lot.

My nails this week tell the tale of Tipper’s Terrible Ambenture.

My colors are dark brown and off-white.

The nails show: Cat Lover, my brain when it couldn’t think of anything except if Tipper was all right, Tipper sparkling with joy at having been brought back into the safety of the house, and Tipper showing you his sore leg that Boone snagged. The thumbs are the slats of the porch under which he hid and did not come when he was called.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.
