Thursday Doors: If You Say So

#ThursdayDoors #writingprompt

These doors come from one of my many house plan books: THE NOT SO BIG HOUSE by Sarah Susanka. I was like, “These are not not so big. These are plenty big.” But her website says that by “not so big” she means smaller than you thought you needed but just as expensive, with the square footage money going into details to make the house feel and live bigger.

If you say so.

I do like the details, though, so here goes.

Oops! Got a light blurp on the photo. But you can see the deal: a storage drawer for shoes built under the staircase.

I like these cockamamie cabinet doors.

Louvered closet doors and glass panels on the front door, lots of framed openings to make the space feel cozy and open at the same time. Me like.

Pretty frontage. I love the balcony above and the door opening onto a paved area.

And this beauty.

Your comment to Teagan is what I was thinking about that storage drawer for shoes. We would have lost our cats in there forever. Great doors though.

Mom had a slide-out trash bin, and her favorite cat loved to slip in behind it when it was open. And we used to have a gap between our tub and the wall, accessible through the vanity cabinet, that our cats loved above all other places. When I had the tub replaced by a step-in shower, that went away, much to their dismay and my relief.

I built a simple platform bed for Faith. It has drawers on each side, and a long drawer up the middle. There’s a space at the top where there’s no drawer. I cut the center piece of the platform base so that section can be removed to retrieve a cat. It’s been used many times.
