Food Tuesday: So Not Tteokguk

#FoodTuesday #writingprompt

I saw Maangchi’s video about Korean rice cake soup and it looked so good, I decided to kinda sorta make it, since I had a package of Buldak Tteokkbakki.

Here’s Maangchi’s recipe.

And here’s mine (sorry I didn’t take a picture until after I had eaten all the pretty off it).

I didn’t have beef, so I used leftover chicken. I didn’t have green onions, so I used regular onions which I fried with mushrooms (not in her recipe). I HAVE made her rice cakes, but I had the premade, so I used that. I couldn’t slice it until after it was softened up by boiling, and what was the point of that, so I didn’t have the “coins”. Obviously, I slopped in some leftover mashed potatoes and corn.

I DID make the egg pancake. I DID NOT add hot peppers. I DID add the seaweed paper, but it was NASTY (to me), so I picked it off. Only most of it, alas. I DID NOT use fish sauce, only soy sauce.

Other than that, mine was exactly like hers. *whistling nonchalantly and looking into the distance*

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: So many substitutions it isn’t even the same thing.
