#FoodTuesday #writingprompt
I’m not going to a New Year’s Eve or Day party, but I’ve been thinking about what I might take if I did go to one.
It wouldn’t be this.

I’ve heard and read about Parmesan crisps for years, so I thought I’d give them a try. They always look so elegant when other people do it. Mine looks like if Rice Crispies got sick all over themselves.
Tasted about like it, too.
Ick!
You grate Parmesan cheese, put it into little blurps on a pan, and cook it — I did mine at 450F for five minutes. They come out stuck to the pan; when they’re still warm, they fracture when you try to get them off; when they’re cool enough to come off easily, they’re stiff and fragile.
They taste nasty. If anybody knows what I’m doing wrong, you can tell me if you want to, or not. I doubt I’ll ever give these another go.
ICK!!
A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Ick. Just ick.

December 31, 2025 at 7:08amIf I saw that before reading your description (which I love), I would have been eager to try. I’m not a big fan of cheese, but that kinda looks good. I’ll take your word for it though.
Happy New Year!

December 31, 2025 at 9:23amWell, Laura has persuaded me that I did it right, so I may try again. If you ever see any in the wild, take a nibble and tell me what you think.

December 30, 2025 at 11:04amReally? Alright, for what it’s worth when I saw the photo I thought oh cool, a parmesan crisp! So while you may describe them as rice crispie vomit (which, now that I’ve heard it, is a fair description) yours do seem to look correct. Do you like parmesan cheese in other forms? Have you tried other people’s crisps? It’s a very strong smelling (and tasting) cheese so maybe yours are fine, you just don’t like the snack.
Ick. Just ick is a brilliant prompt. 😂

December 31, 2025 at 9:22amHi, Laura! I love Parmesan cheese, but I guess I must just like it as garnish. I haven’t tried anybody else’s. I think I would love these if I stuck them into the edge of a pasta dish as an edible decoration. Thanks for the encouragement — I’ll try again!
