I do love NPR’s online Cosmos and Culture, and this week’s “Moving From Creation Of The Cosmos To Human Life” demonstrates why. It tells me some stuff I didn’t know, refreshes me on some stuff I did know, puts it all into perspective for me, and clarifies without making me feel patronized.
Today — well, okay, the other day — I found out that the first known record of a robot (if by “robot” one means a mechanism that mimics something alive, which is not what a robot is at all) was a steam-powered pigeon. See for yourself.
The Antikythera Mechanism is even older than I thought! This article from late 2014 dates it to maybe 205 BC! While you’re over there at Ancient Origins, poke around some. It’s fascinating!
Last week, I recommended The Fairy Tale Asylum. I’m recommending it again, because this week she’s written the origin story of one of the characters, and it’s a keeper!
A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: Write the origin story of a character you haven’t written an origin story for.

September 11, 2015 at 9:37amWhen I went to the robot website, I found another question answered: who is Craig of Craigslist? He started it up in 1996; quit his job in 1999. That makes his success probably one of the internet’s oldest enterprises! Yes! They had internet then! Fascinating.
Have fun at Imaginarium!
