It’s time for a new badge for One-Liner Wednesday, so go to Linda G. Hill’s blog (Linda is the founder of the feast) and vote on your favorite!
My grandpa had an odd, understated way about him. He would say something negative or faintly complimentary, but the grin on his face would tell you to ignore that and understand he was mightily pleased.
That line in the movie Babe, when the pig has just won the sheep-herding championship (OOPS! SPOILER!) reminds me of him: “That’ll do, pig.”
So today’s one-liner is sort of an all-purpose construction:

If you asked him how he liked your new dress, he’d say, “If that ain’t pretty, it’ll do ’til pretty comes along.” If you gave him supper, he’d say, “If that wasn’t good, it’ll do ’til good comes along.” You get the idea.
Do we still carry on with that? You bet we do.
If he wasn’t memorable, he’ll do ’till memorable comes along.
This post is part of Linda G. Hills weekly blog hop, One-Liner Wednesday. If you have a one-liner or just like them, follow the link.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Write an understatement that is or is not understood to mean a superlative.

June 12, 2019 at 8:59amIt takes a certain mindset to deal with that sort of “approbation”.

June 12, 2019 at 10:01amAnd it takes absolute trust in the teaser, that it’s love and not passive aggression. With Grandpa, it was so obviously love.

June 12, 2019 at 2:07pmNeat. I have been reviewing the various short story formats out there – flash fiction, 101 words, etc. This is fun!
