Something is always better than nothing, and sadly Australia has proved that insisting on ‘perfection’ only results in a decade of absolutely nothing. The Rudd Labor government proposed a system for curbing green house gases, but they needed the support of the Greens to get the legislature through. The Greens refused to support it because it ‘wasn’t good enough’. So we got nothing. That’s one reason I’ll never vote for the Greens.
Sounds about par for the course. We (progressive Democrats) were all kinds of butt-hurt over the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) because it was so paltry compared to what we wanted, but the man was right: Something was better than another fifty years of nothing.
