Monday Recommends and Nail Art: Suspense and Mystery

I just finished THE EVIL YOU CHOOSE by friend and fellow writer Dan Antion, who also blogs on No Facilities where, among other things, he hosts Thursday Doors.

Reader, I loved it! Dan takes Zach and Billy, two retirement-age men who’ve been friends since they were youngsters, each of whom has a fairly useless paranormal ability, and throws them into a deadly mix of gangsters, family connections, and ruthless semi-rogue FBI agents who know about Zach’s “powers”.

The friends leverage their paranormal and digital abilities to keep Billy off the radar and to help Zach squeak out of the tight spot the FBI has put him in.

The paranormal abilities are so limited, they’re only a bit stronger than those of people I know or have known, making them believable enough for fiction. The Tech Speak is also limited, also believable (and probably not at all exaggerated) and never info-dumped.

My only complaint is one of my personal pet peeves: People not using contractions in dialog. But that’s a Me Thing.

Two thumbs up.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to start the sequel, WHEN EVIL CHOOSES YOU.

My nails this week are a tribute. Bonus points if you can guess what they’re a tribute to.

I used ever so many colors and ever so many plates.

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

Thank you so much, Marian (and thanks for the contractions comment. It might be a you thing, but it’s a good comment). I don’t get the tribute, but your nails are cool!
