Okay, so I found out the sourdough starter recipe I was working from was WRONG — It said to use equal amounts of flour and distilled water, and it should have been HALF AS MUCH WATER as flour!
Too late for my first recipe, I used the Buttery Sourdough Biscuits from the King Arthur Flour website, but of course my starter was goopier than it should have been, so I had to add a metric fuck ton of extra flour. It was still too goopy to roll and cut, so I made cat-head biscuits.
Turned out purdy durn good, even so. Tender, but held up to being made into a jam sammich.

So thank you, Michelle Albanes-Davis of Stir the Pot for hosting the book club that got me to read SOURDOUGH by Robin Sloan that got me to start sourdough. Not crazy about the book, but I love the result.
A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: A mistake that nevertheless works out.
