I’m so lucky. #4 Daughter, the amazing Sara Marian, knows a place that sells Dr. Brown’s Cel-Ray Soda by the six-pack.

I got addicted to Cel-Ray when there was a New York-style deli called Uncle Miltie’s on then-4th Street in Louisville, Kentucky. I would take the bus to town, borrow five books from the library, walk to Uncle Miltie’s, get a take-away of pastrami on rye and a Cel-Ray, then walk back to the library and sit on the pedestal of the Lincoln statue and read and eat. Bliss.

Then the deli closed, and my supply was cut off. Sorrow, and the frequent repetition of the story of my Paradise lost.

Fast forward to a couple of years ago, when #4 walked in the door with her hand behind her back and whipped out the soda of my longing.

It’s just as good as I remember. And now there are two addicts.

My nails this week are simple, neutral and gold, cross-stamped with cherry blossoms. I think they’re cherry blossoms. They’re flahrs, anyway. You know “flahrs”. That’s what buds open out into.

I can’t imagine what a soft drink made with celery could taste like -shiver- but…the Offspring and I were addicted to an Italian cola called Chinotto. Not too sweet with a slight, refreshing hint of bitter. The company that made it here must have gone out of business during the pandemic coz it’s no longer available anywhere. You can get the imported one, if you search hard enough, but it’s very expensive so… I feel your pain! And your joy. Go #4!

Great find by #4. We still have a deli “around here” that sells it. It’s not close, but the drive can be torture. Still, it’s worth it. Cool nails.

Congratulations on having a deli within driving distance. I suppose we do, too, but I hate to drive, so….
