Food Tuesday: Haluska

#FoodTuesday #recipe #vegan #vegetarian #writingprompt

Friend and fellow writer Dan Antion posted a picture of a meal he had while on a trip and said it was haluska. I had never heard of that, so I looked it up and found that I had heard of it, but I hadn’t known what it was called.

So I cooked it.

Haluska is steam-fried cabbage and onions with cooked buttered noodles mixed in with it. I used vegan margarine. I also cut up vegan spicy sausage into it.

Mine was kind of juicy, which I liked, but I wished I had a big ol’ hunk of pumpernickel to go with it.

Thanks, Dan!

Sorry to be such a late arrival. Last week was a hot mess for me. I may never catch up. But when I saw the title, I had to have a look. Haluska is one of those meals that I think has many names, or maybe no name at all, depending on who’s making it. Adding a meat ingredient, and you might have also made kapuska. In any case, it looks good, and I’d happily eat a bowl.

Kapuska. I like it. It was super good, and I thank you for introducing me to it. I’m sorry your week was, as Charlie liked to say, problematic. Hope things are cooling down and straightening up.

This is the hardest time of year for me. I have so many projects underway, and most of them have to be finished before winter. If something starts with noodles and butter, I’m in.

That sounds so good! And I’m definitely in the market to try something new when it comes to cooking.

It’s quick and easy and different and customizable. I made mine vegan, but it doesn’t have to be.
