So this happened.

We went to another convention this past weekend (Imaginarium, the best creative writing festival ever) and, as I was carrying the very last two plastic bags of snack chips down Sara’s steps to the car, I stepped wrong and fell. Sara says I landed on a bag of blue corn tortilla chips that saved my life.
Anywho, this was my only apparent wound — no, I tell a lie, I also skinned my knee. Apparently, I landed on the hinge of my glasses and broke the temple off them and they poked me in the face as revenge. I went around telling everybody at the con that I won the Squid Game, but nobody believed me.
ANYWAY, I highly recommend Imaginarium and I also highly recommend not falling on your face, especially when you’re a fat old lady.
These were my nails. I’m happy to say I did not chip them in my fall. Priorities, yo.

July 24, 2025 at 7:28pmOh Marian! That looks painful. I hope it looks worse than it feels. Good that the bag of tortilla chips came to your rescue. Kudo to you for carrying on with the task at hand. I hope you enjoyed the convention.

July 25, 2025 at 9:01amI did enjoy it, although I don’t go to enjoy myself anymore. I go to sell books and help beginning writers. I did those things.

July 24, 2025 at 5:58pmMarian!!! It must have scared your daughter to death. That’s too frightening. And I’m sure you’ve got painful places that you aren’t letting on about.
Around ten years ago (in DC), I fell head-first down the flight of my front (brick) stairs. I was carrying something bulky to the trash and got over-balanced. It honestly felt like someone behind me pushed my shoulders… Weird much? Anyhow I had a fractured ankle and bruised ribs. Somehow, though I wasn’t trying, my head stayed up, so the bruises were on my legs and torso.
You are a real trouper to go on to the convention. Big virtual hugs.

July 25, 2025 at 8:59amIt did scare her. She yelled, “Mommy!” — She calls me “Mom” — and threw herself down next to me to see how I was, so hard SHE had bruises all along HER arm. No joke. I scraped a knee and I’m still sore in spots, but I really got off lightly. Sara claims the bag of blue tortilla chips broke my fall, but I think the ghosts held me up as best they could.
I’m sure sorry to hear about your fall. They’re no fun.
