Monday Recommends and Nail Art: Archeology and Whatever “Year Of The” Is Called

I would love to recommend The Archaeology of Food by Katheryn C. Twiss, which #4 Daughter got me for a gift. I hope she didn’t pay full price for it, because it’s hella ‘spensive for my cheap ass. It can be found for less than the Amazon price if you scour used book sites. Or you could probably borrow it from the library (or, as we say around here, the liberry).

It tells how archaeologists analyse how and what and where and why which people ate what. Historical archaeologists have it (relatively) easy, but a lot of detective work (and, Twiss points out,) a lot of guesswork) goes into answering those questions in prehistoric contexts. It’s fascinating!

We’re coming out of the year of the wood snake and going into the year of the fire horse (for my fellow dyslexics, that’s fire hoRse, not fire HOSE). So my nails are light, sparkly red over dark red, horse on one side and snake on the other.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Do you have a food you think of as “rich people food” and/or “poor people food”?

That sounds like an interesting book. Personally, I’m glad to be out of the year of the snake. Cool nails.

They tell me (“well, ACtually…” pushing glasses up nose) that the year doesn’t change until the middle of February, so I guess we still have some snakiness coming.
