A bonus: It includes a fun section just for kids and many vegetarian treats for our pampered pets. There’s even a recipe for a rat birthday cake! No matter if your plans don’t include firing up your oven right now, the “Written In Our Hearts” Vegetarian Cookbook is simply a fun read for a great cause!

July 11, 2014 at 11:01amYes, Jane — Indeed Davy was a jockey in training in Manchester before he left England at a very young age to come to America, bringing Oliver’s “Artful Dodger” to Broadway (where he received a Tony nomination). But what many don’t know is, after The Monkees TV show ended, Davy realized a long held dream. Often, when visiting a racetrack, he “adopted” racehorses that owners no longer deemed profitable. Davy bought them and they were brought to his home to become a part of the family. Absolutely nothing was expected of these horses other than to be treasured pets — in fact, each one was given the last name “Jones”. And it’s because of Davy’s habit of rescuing “worthless” horses that, days after their father’s passing, his four daughters (According to Davy: “All girls”) founded the Davy Jones Equine Foundation. The DJEMF is dedicated to caring for the rescued herd left behind by their famous dad and to continuing his legacy in the programs they hope to build, such as the developing therapy rides for children and adults. The “Written In Our Hearts” Vegetarian Cookbook was created to fund the DJEMF causes and to honoring a man who was much, much more than a Monkee. 🙂
