Yes. Hello. Yes. I’m — ahem — pardon me — I’m Captain Joan A. Fazzaria of the Galactic Union Space Troopers, currently captain of the St. Gregory the Wonderworker. That’s a teaching ship, run cooperatively by the Troopers and the co-ed Jesuits. So we carry … um … yes … teachers and … students.
Yes, I do bite my nails. Why, yes, rather badly. Um.
Oh, you want to know why the title of my post is Jinx? When your name is Joan A. and you’re on a ship, Jinx is a fairly inevitable nickname. Besides, I sometimes seem to be just a little bit prone — or my ship seems a little bit prone — to … um … mishaps.
But I maintain it isn’t me. I maintain it’s the students. Or, actually, the teachers.
Yes.
~*~
Jinx and those teachers (but only tangentially the students) appear in FORCE OF HABIT, a comic science fiction police procedural currently out of print. Gotta get that back out one of these fine days.
Meanwhile, hop over to Fatal Foodies, where I’m posting about Turkish coffee.
And enjoy the A-to-Z Challenge by visiting PaleopiX, Musings in Science, Writing, and Life in General. Also beer.
I plan to attempt Story A Day May again this year, beginning — oddly enough — on the first of May.
A WRITING PROMPT FOR YOU: What makes your main character nervous? Like nail-biting nervous? Not scared, just jittery.

May 11, 2015 at 8:31amI think she’s a lot more competent than she thinks she is or she wouldn’t have made Captain. But a ship in space is always just one misfortune away from total disaster; some can ignore that, some thrive on it, but Jinx worries about it.

The referral to Paleopix was awesome. As you know, I’ve been paleo-ing for a while now, and I found much to like at this site. Thanks.
Shall I recommend Steven Mithin’s “After the Ice” now?
Oh, why not?

April 28, 2015 at 1:17pmI ordered “After the Ice” the day after you showed it to me, and it arrived yesterday. Yay!
