The Sword in the Scone #GISH #recipe @PenzeysSpices

I told you yesterday I took part in GISH, which I misnamed: GISH stands for the GREATEST Internet Scavenger Hunt.

The hunt is over, and I’m free to share my piddly three entries.

I forgot to write down the item number for this one. It only said, “The sword in the scone. That is not a typo.”

So I made this:

The basic recipe is Simple Scones from Allrecipes.com, although I made a couple of changes: In addition to raisins, I also added chopped pecans, cinnamon, and ground cardamom, and sprinkled the top with Penzeys Vanilla Sugar. The original recipe calls for the dough to be patted into a circle and cut into wedges, but I didn’t think that would look stony enough, so I made lumps.

The “sword” is my favorite kitchen knife with an aluminum cross-bar taped on.

This is Item #52, a medieval rotating bookmark made out of string and office supplies. It’s in E. Chris Garrison’s new book, TRANS WITCH.

The final item I submitted, #53, was supposed to be a poem on the magic of nature.

Will I join another GISH? I don’t know. It was fun, but I don’t know that I contributed that much to my team. It did me good, though, and we GISHers raised mad money for charities this weekend, so that was totally worth it.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Write about having fun for a good cause.

Scones are pretty much biscuits made with sour cream and/or sweet cream. Kinda-sorta. Congratulations on having someone else to bake them for you, though! Those are the best!
