I may have said this before. If so, put your fingers in your ears and go “la la la”, because I’m about to say it again.

One of my favorite feel-good movies is Adventures in Babysitting — the 1987 one. It’s full of humor, mild peril, and unlikely success. Kind of like if Die Hard and the song Don’t Worry, Be Happy had a baby. But it’s more than that. It’s also about responsibility, rising to occasions, and teamwork.

It’s kind of a hero’s journey, with the Babysitter as the hero and her forgotten-back-at-the-house purse as the dead mentor.

I’m not the only person who sees more in the movie than just hijinx:

Most coming-of-age movies feel very situation-based. Here’s the setup. The group gets through it. We all had a good time and learned a little. Adventures in Babysitting is constructed in a way that mirrors the psychological development of a child maturing into an adult. Every step of the way, with new characters and interactions, the film reinforces that approach. I’m in love with the movie for that. The amazing thing is for all that depth, I can show it to my kid and she can understand and enjoy the movie. Because the joint is ridiculously fun.

My nails this week: The base polish is a light blue. The fluids are that light blue, a dark teal, and a coral. The stamping polish is gold.
