Monday Recommends and Nail Art: Sea and Shine

#2 Daughter loaned me her DVD of THE SEA INSIDE, the story of a Galician man, quadriplegic since a diving accident in his early 20s, who went to court to fight for the right to assisted suicide. Being totally dependent on his relatives, he would need someone to assist in his death and, while attempted suicide wasn’t prosecuted in Spain, assisting suicide was prosecuted as murder.

The courts persisted in denying his petitions, so he planned an elaborate series of “small steps” for friends to take, no one of which was an act of murder or attempted murder. In the end, he filmed himself telling the camera that he had planned the series of non-murderous actions, that he believed the water in his glass was lethal, and that he was drinking it of his own free will. He sucked it through a straw, and he died.

There was some talk about finding out who had put the glass and/or the straw within reach of his mouth and prosecuting that person, and (this wasn’t in the film, this was in a review of it I read) people all over Spain wrote to the police confessing.

Javier Bardem played a man who could only move his head, and did it so expressively one wonders why anybody ever bothers with bodies. Not what you would call a zany laff riot, but brilliant.

My nails this week are turquoise and dark blue, topped with a purple-sheen translucent topper and stamped with opposite colors.

It’s hard to know how we would react under those situations, either as the person, or the people being asked to help. The nails are cool looking. I don’t detect any turquoise, or blue, but I do like them.

The blue looks purple, because I put a shimmery transparent purple topper over the blue. And I’m colorblind between certain shades of blue/green and brown/green, so I’m never certain. lol
