Getting a late start today. It was hot yesterday and got cold in the night, and I bundled up in bed instead of getting up and turning on the heat and overslept. Sue me.

ANYWAY, while it was warm, I hunted for morels. I found a few bitsies, but the hunt was wonderful. I always forget two things about spring: how much I love the fireflies when it’s time for them, and how much I enjoy walking in the woods before the snakes and ticks and brambles take it over. If somebody could bottle the scent of the woods in spring, it would put the health care business out of commission. Also the perfume industry, as far as I’m concerned.

So Sara went out with me on Friday — one of the kids goes out with me the first time of the season, to make sure I’ll walk carefully, ever since the time I fell and — What did I do, class? I broke both my wrists, that’s right. Now I’m allowed to go out alone, as long as I text somebody before I go and the same somebody when I get home.

Friday was the vernal equinox, which Sara always says in a Swedish accent (VERRRnal EHHHquinox), so my nails reflect that.
