Happy NaNo! Yes, it’s National Novel Writing Month. No, I’m not writing a novel this year. I already have enough drafted novels to choke a horse. Or something. But I am participating in my own way. I have my alarm set for 6am every morning. This morning, I began going through my Pimchan the Warrior stories, putting little sticky arrows next to details.
When I’ve finished that (tomorrow morning), I’ll open yWriter5 (kinda like Scrivener, only FREE) and transfer the locations, characters, and special items to a new Pimchan project. Then I’ll plug in general outlines of scenes/plot points I want. Then I’ll figure out how I want those arranged for maximum effect, and then I’ll write. Wheeeee!
Laura of Riddle From the Middle put me onto this next site. (BTW, if you don’t follow Riddle From the Middle, I recommend it highly.) The site is Project Implicit, a study conducted by Harvard, that gives you tests to ferret out the implicit biases you don’t realize you have. Or maybe (like me) you understand that you have them, but want them pinpointed for you so you can dig them out and expose them to killing sunlight. Super cool!
If you’ve been following my blog or know me personally, chances are you know I’m all about the craft beer. So it was only a matter of time before I was directed to the American Craft Beer site, specifically to this post mocking fake “National Fill-In-The-Blank Beer” Days. How can one not love a site that advertises ad space with the slogan We can be bought?
You also know that I love cats, but you may not know that I also love dogs. Well, I do. Wuv de widdle doggumses mwah mwah mwah! And what did The Law of Attraction send me? NEWS FOR DOGS, which runs such important items as:
Report: Nose Wet
NEW YORK – Neighborhood puppy Vincent Dogforio has been confirmed by several witnesses to have a wet nose.
and:
Cat’s Threat to Knock Over Cup Intensifies
BLOOMINGTON, IN. – A standoff between local cat owner, Michele Walsh, and her domestic tabby, Bubbles, quietly threatening to knock over a cup of water sitting on the kitchen counter, has recently hit the four-hour mark, Walsh confirmed.
It also includes the occasional cat story. Just the headlines and leads have me going, “Heh, heh, heh,” like Lord Bowler.
A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Write a scene with a dog and a cat in it. Give them implicit biases.

November 2, 2018 at 8:19amBubbles must be an armature. Our first cat would sit next to a glass of water until you entered the room. Once he realized that you could see him, booosh. That’s a pro.

November 2, 2018 at 9:05amI like cats. They have attitude and when the time is right they act on their impulses. So confident. Kind of inspiring.

November 2, 2018 at 9:43amChickie, our kitten, would REALLY inspire you then. She’s worn us down on more than one point. 😀

November 3, 2018 at 1:39amThought about using November for about ten seconds, and then realized I’m doing the best I can adjusting to a new life, and it will take time. No need to add pressure – I already have to remind myself not to do that enough.
Staying coherent is the first goal. We’re doing okay, but had been avoiding thinking of what it really means to move to a community with 350 residents and about 200 staff. Lotta people.
