This is the next-to-the-last post for Deal Me In 2018.
So what do you think? Should I sign up for 2019? Are you tired or uninterested in the short stories I read, or shall I keep posting this category?
As for this week, I turned up spades, so I read a story from Daily Science Fiction:
The Endless Lives of Kama
by William Delman
A programmer develops a world model that really does foresee the future on a global scale. Yes, he uses it to become a multimillionaire. But he also finds himself in the place of a divinity, able to answer questions both trivial and monumental, both personal and global.
One question he cannot answer is whether he and the world would be better off if he shoots himself in his luxuriously appointed bathroom.
If you’re a Goth, there is no wrong answer. What will keep me thinking about this story is wondering which not-wrong answer he’ll choose.
William Delman’s work has appeared in The Arcanist, Little Blue Marble, and many other fine publications. When he’s not chasing his three-year-old daughter around Salem, MA, he’s usually at his desk working on a story, or on the mats at Fenix BJJ working on his Jiu-Jitsu. Or doing laundry. He does a lot of laundry.
If YOU need a short story to read, I have free ones here on my Free Reads page. I also have four collections for 99 cents each linked from my Short Stories page.
A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Write about someone who’s life work is answering questions.
