Sara and I just finished watching the second and, apparently, final season of Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency and weeping piteously because there should be more seasons. As Sara put it, “Infinitely more.”
But that is not to be. Alas.
My favorite character was possibly Bart Curlish, played by Fiona Dourif (Brad “Grima Wormtongue” Dourif’s daughter). Bart was a “holistic assassin” who killed just about everybody she came across, because the Universe wouldn’t have sent them across her path if they didn’t need to be killed. This actually seems to be true. She can’t be harmed. Bullets dodge her.
After many adventures, she decides that she’s going to take control of her life. She’s going to kill some people and not kill other people.
Toward the end of the series, she meets someone she spared, and he’s much less nice than he was before. And Bart says something I’ve often thought when dealing with somebody who’s being what I consider needlessly and inexcusably unpleasant:
I think I should tell you… the universe is sort of making me feel like I should kill you now.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Is there a character you very much like from a defunct television show? Why do you like and remember that character? Would that character (if not the star of the defunct show) be a good lead in a show of their own? Why or why not?
