Food Tuesday: Hot and Sour Soup — Vegan, Vegetarian

I have all the Bad Manners cookbooks except the first. I’m certain I bought the first, but I can’t find it, so I guess I’ll have to buy it again.

This past week, I made Hot and Sour soup out of their FAST AS FUCK cookbook.

I’m not going to share the recipe, because you can buy the goddamn book, just like I did. They’re good people; they deserve the support.

I will say it calls for rice vinegar and soy sauce, which I had, and agave and bamboo shoots and chili garlic paste, none of which I had. I substituted a wee bit of sugar, celery, and a crushed Thai pepper. I also added some corn, because I like corn, and rice noodles, because noodles. ANYWAY, I wish I had added a LOT more cornstarch, because I like my hot and sour soup silky, not watery.

Still, it was delicious! Thank you, Bad Manners! I recommend their cookbooks, especially if you want to eat vegan/vegetarian with joy and excitement.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Hot as a chili pepper.

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.

The soup looks good to me the way it is, and I don’t deal well with lots of corn starch, so we’re good here.
