Food Tuesday: Pickled Radish

#FoodTuesday #writingprompt

Full disclosure: I hate a radish. Or I did, until my #4 Daughter SIL, the fabulous Michael Ignacio, cooked some for me. Yes, COOKED. They’re delicious. Roast them or fry them in oil until they’re browned on the outside. OMG, IS THIS REALLY A RADISH?

ANYWAY, for some reason, I came across a video of my beloved Maagchi pickling one of those humongous daikon radishes and, having found one at the farmers market, I decided to copy her.

I took them to the family get-together and two of my sisters in law went CA-RAZY for them. They’re slightly sweet, slightly pickly, and only mildly radishy, with none of the nasty radish bitter heat that I hate so much. So if you like nasty, bitter, hot radishes, you probably won’t like these. I kinda like them.

A WRITING PROMPT FROM ME TO YOU: Something bitter made slightly sweet.

Marian, it is so nice to be getting your emails again! I hate radishes unless they are thinly sliced in a salad. I never tried other methods of preparation.

    Cheers,

    Mitch

Mitch! It’s so good to hear from you! I don’t know why my update emails stopped going out or why they started again, but I’m sure glad they’re back.

I hated radishes in any thinness until I had them cooked/pickled. I might try them plain again, now that I’ve got the bit in my teeth.
