I suddenly remembered NANCY AND PLUM, a book I checked out of the library and read on numerous occasions when I was young. Realizing that I am now a grown-ass woman, I bought myself a copy. It doesn’t disappoint. Nancy and Plum are two little orphan sisters living in a badly run children’s home (the home is badly run, not the children) under the beady eye of the dreadful Mrs. Monday and her unspeakable niece, Marybelle. Nancy and Plum are not sweet little children. They host a nightly serial called “Revenge”, in which a doll named Marybelle is dropped from cliffs, run over by trains, and suffers manifold physical traumas. I haven’t finished this read-through, but I remember it had a suitably happy ending, which I anticipate with pleasure.

Sara and I are still, and will probably always be, obsessed with K-dramas, especially those set in the Joseon Era. I bought a bunch of Korea-inspired stamping plates from Maniology, and was disappointed that there were no plates with hanbok patterns on them. So I made my own interpretation of hanbok, using one of the ribbon outline stamps from my cancer plate. I also made a silver-on-black dragon for the Crown Prince, a gold-on-red dragon for the King, and an attempt at cranes over purple with multi-colored clouds for the Left State Councilor and the Right State Councilor.

About

I was born in Louisville, Kentucky, but now live in the woods in southern Indiana. Though I only write fiction, I love to read non-fiction. The more I learn about this world, the more fantastic I see it is.
