Food Tuesday: The End (Prolly)

#FoodTuesday #vegan #vegetarian

This coming weekend is the last for the farmers’ markets here. No more freshies like these:

Fresh tomatoes, fresh corn, home-baked bread from Mrs. Wuest.

I sure will miss it! I can eat frozen or canned corn, and I can buy or bake bread (not as good as Mrs. Wuest’s), but I’ll have no more fresh tomatoes until July 2024.

I’m wondering about your windows. I know you’ve got a lot of them – points to kitty pics – is there some way you could turn one room into a sort of ‘greenhouse’? Not the whole room, just the area near the windows? That way you could grow a few of your most favourite veggies all year round?
If you bought some of those big plastic tubs, you could place the plant pots inside so the floors would be protected. Of course, I’m not sure what would protect the plants from Da Catz… :/

We do have a lot of windows, but Charlie oriented the house and constructed the roof eaves so that direct sunlight never hits any room in the house more than an hour or so a day in the summer. The low winter sun is blocked by the trees. And, yes, the cats would definitely be a problem. If I make the mistake of watering the plant in the front room, I’m sure to find at least one leaf ripped off and played with because then they think I care about the plant.

They are, indeed! If I had a farmer’s market within walking distance, I’d buy fresh every day.

I keep forgetting you’re not in California!

BTW, I absolutely hate tomatoes except properly mushed (and smooth) as sauce (cooked) and catsup.

You may have all of mine, in perpetuity.

Thank you for the perpetuity tomatoes! You’re not alone in only liking them well cooked. #4 Daughter only likes yellow ones fresh, because they have less acid. My grandmother was the same way.

That is a very good-looking meal in the photo. I’m getting hungry.
